On August 12th, the world will celebrate International Youth Day, a day dedicated to acknowledging the role and potential of young people in making a positive impact on society. This year the focus is on achieving Sustainable Development Goals. A successful transition towards a greener world will depend on the development of green skills in the population. Green skills are “knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society”.
In alignment with this theme Power Of Pads is working towards empowering girls and young women through two primary initiatives:
1. Reusable Period Pads Distribution Program: Many girls in developing countries lack access to affordable and hygienic menstrual products. Power of Pads is working tirelessly to distribute reusable period pads to these girls, ensuring they have a safe and eco-friendly solution to manage their periods. By using reusable pads the girls are reducing their environmental impact.
2. Period Pad-Making Projects and Businesses: Power of Pads recognises the immense potential for social and economic transformation that lies in empowering girls and women to create their own sustainable solutions. Through training and support, we encourage girls to start their own period pad-making projects and businesses. This initiative not only fosters economic independence but also promotes community development and empowerment.
We aim to provide girls with the tools and knowledge they need to overcome menstrual barriers and embrace their potential. International Youth Day is a perfect occasion to highlight the power of young people and their capacity to drive positive change in their communities.
