In 2013 Friends of Buburi put in place a strategic plan for handing over the complete running of the clinic to the Community Based Organisation by 2020. This means the clinic will be fully run and managed by the community for the community.
The appointment of a clinic administrator who works closely with the CBO means that more and more of the decisions relating to the daily business of the clinic are being made in Kenya by the people working there and in the community. This involves financial and future planning, sourcing other income streams as well as being the employer of 16 staff.
The CBO have managed to obtain some financial support from other NGOs in Kenya to pay some staff salaries such as the HIV Counsellor and the Peer Educator, roles that are vital in the work with HIV patients.
The sustainability plan is enabling FoB to gradually step back from operational involvement but our aim is to continue as a donor to support the clinic and community after 2020.
As we head quickly towards this date, we’re continuing to send a significant monthly donation but with the growth of the clinic the demands for funding continues to escalate. We would like to thank all our sponsors, supporters and friends who through your donations, make the life saving work at the clinic possible.
