Welcome to our New Trustee

13th November 2024

Tanya has worked in the non profit sector for twenty years and has a particular passion for services that promote and encourage equity for women and girls and address the causes of gender based violence. During a holiday trip to Kenya in 2023 she saw first hand the poverty and conditions that most people lived in and was struck by the stark contrast to her living conditions in Kenya and in the UK. She knew she needed to do something meaningful to help but didn’t know what.  A chance conversation about this with a colleague, led to her being invited to a POP meeting. She then very kindly supported the charity through a Birthday fundraiser, walking 57 miles over the course of a few weeks to raise money for POP.

Tanya says, “I was blown away by the outcomes that could be achieved through something as simple as resusable period pads.  I also like the idea that POP support projects actually in Kenya – supporting locals to help themselves. I am very excited to join this charity which combines my wish to improve conditions for women and girls living in Kenya and my sincere wish for women and girls to be empowered and have equity’.

However, as Tanya joins us, we are also sadly saying goodbye to Rachel Fowler who has been a Trustee for three years. With her wealth of skills and knowledge in the legal sector, she has provided us with clear guidance on our obligations with regards to charity law and expertly steered us through recent changes. We have also valued her clear thinking and energy and support for our fund-raising activities. We know she will continue to be a good friend to the charity and wish her and her children well for the future.
