Asha’s Story

6th November 2024

This is Asha’s story in her own words.

“I’m Asha Mukoya, one of the women involved in the production of sanitary towels and one of the women who train other women in the production of sanitary towels.

I like this project because when we started, I did not know how to produce pads, so I started to learn…. how to produce pads until I knew how to sew. I’m now a trainer for other women who join us in the sewing of sanitary towels and again what I like about this project is that we have been able to rescue many girls who dropped out of school. There are those girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies and others who sit at home due to lack of pads. So after visiting the girls and starting to produce pads and taking them to schools we realised that the performance of the girls improved and secondly their attendance improved. We thank Power Of Pads, since we started working together, even young mothers who had dropped out of school were able to return to school.

Other girls have benefited by joining us in the production of sanitary towels so that their peers should not encounter what they went through…. Even still many schools around have wished we could reach them and that is why we ask Power Of Pads to continue supplying us with materials so we produce pads and can reach many girls and rescue them from early pregnancies and from school absenteeism”.
